Cycles of Life and Business 🌕

Read this on my website

I’ve always felt more at home in a forest 🌲 than in a city. As someone who prefers a wilderness hike over most social events, I tend to look at things from the perspective of the natural world.

In trading, I see price movement as an effect of catalysts and inertia (Newton’s first law) and in business, I think of cycles.

I spent a fair bit of time last night freezing my ass off 🥶 in order to enjoy the full moon. You can see Jupiter off to the right in this iPhone shot from my patio.

The halo you see around the moon is “actually an optical illusion. It is caused when the moon light refracts off ice crystals in a thin veil of cirrus clouds. Those crystals create a giant lens 20,000 feet above us.”1

Pretty cool.

The moon waxes and wanes, tides ebb and flow, seasons shift. You can find similar rhythms mirrored in your life and business.

Too often, aspiring entrepreneurs believe success is a straight upward climb. The truth? It’s cyclical. Just like the moon has its phases, so do our endeavors.

🌑 The new moon represents beginnings—quiet, introspective moments where seeds are planted. In business, this might be brainstorming ideas, creating a new product, or learning a new skill. No one sees the effort you’re putting in yet, but it’s essential groundwork.

🌒 The waxing moon symbolizes growth. Things start to take shape, and momentum builds. Clients trickle in, your confidence grows, and you see tangible progress.

🌕 The full moon, like today’s, is a time of illumination—a peak in the cycle. It’s when you see results, celebrate milestones, or feel the clarity of your vision coming to life. But just as the moon doesn’t stay full, neither do our high points.

🌖 The waning moon brings the invitation to reflect, refine, and release. In business, this could mean shedding what no longer works—whether that’s a strategy, a mindset, or a partnership. It’s not failure; it’s part of the process.

Nature doesn’t force spring to bloom in winter, and neither should you. Recognizing where you are in your own cycle—whether it’s the planning phase, a growth spurt, or a time to let go—helps you flow with the rhythm of success instead of resisting it.

Today’s full moon invites you to pause. Celebrate your wins. Honor the light you’ve created. And remember, the next phase—whether growth, rest, or renewal—is all part of the process.

In life and business, the moon teaches us: trust the process.

How are you aligning with your current phase? Let me know in the comments down below. 🌕
